ABSTRACT
The study was on marketing of
tourism in Anambra State, Nigeria. The study specifically looked at the
Socioeconomic characteristics ofrespondents patronizing tourism products/sites,
Marketing strategies used by tourism operators in creating awareness of its
products, Contribution of tourism development to the host communities, Level
ofsatisfaction oftourism attributes among visitors/tourists and Factors
influencing the affordability of tourism services/products among operators.
Simple random sampling was used in selecting the 100 respondents (50 operators
and 50 visitors). Primary data was used in this study. Data were collected through
the use of structured questionnaire and personal interview. Data were analyzed
using simple descriptive statistics such as means, percentages and frequency
distributions, 4 point likert scale type and regression. The result showed that
majority of those patronizing tourism sites in the study area were males,
married, literate and had were non students. More so, the result showed that
majority ofthe respondents had paid between 1-5 times in the last 6 times to
tourism site. More so, bill board, radio and personal sales were strategies
used to disseminate information of the existence of tourism products. Creation
of employment and increased customer of in customers’ base were contributions
of tourism to their host. Furthermore, noise was identified as constraints to
effective tourism service/product. Finally, number visitors and taxation were
factors influencing affordability of tourism in the study area. Operators of
tourism outfits should also find it necessary to be socially responsible to
their hosts. This could be in the areas of provision of social amenities no
matter how little, giving of scholarships and employments.
