ABSTRACT
The study instigated the evaluation of public
relations strategies in shell development company. To successfully carry out
the research work, the research problems were stated and they were the constant
clashes between shell and their different host communities due mainly to
negligence to their demands. The purpose of this study as summarized, ie; what
the research work intends to achieve; To evaluate the relationship between the
oil company and its host communities so as to enhance mutual understanding. To
what extent the companies provide for the socio-economic needs of the people.
To suggest solutions on how to enhance quality of life in their area of
operations. To achieve this, there was a technique used to arrive at the
desired goals. These are; The area of study, collection of primary data,
questionnaire design, sample size, sampling technique and data analysis. It was
discovered that public relations department is traded by a P.R officer and the
public of shell were determined, their demands were ascertained e.t.c. Finally
recommendations were made, which are summarized thus: Shell should meet always
with host communities, give due considerations to them and integrate opinion
leaders of this communities into their public relations programs.
