ABSTRACT

Information literacy skills are recognized globally as essential tools for the information society. These skills are elemental to quality library services, the knowledge of which i iii improve the service delivery and attract the members 0/the cicademic community to the library. This study examined inebriation literacy skills of librarians and service delivery in the University of Calabar. The study was guided by five specific objectives and five research questions to elucidate the opinion of librarians on inebriation literacy skills. The study employed descriptive survey research design, while studying a population of twelve (12) librarians in University of Calabar library. The complete census method was used as the sampling technique and data was gathered through questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated by three experts, one (1) from Measurement and Evaluation and two (2) from the Department of Library and Information Science, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. The findings established that editing of research work, referral services, literature review services and research/project/thesis/dissertation writing are the potential. sources of information literacy skills acquired by librarians in University of Calabar. Enhancing copyright and protection of intellectual properties is the major effect of information literacy skills on librarians' service delivery in University of Calabar. Inadequate information resources on information literacy skills, lack of managenienl support for information literacy programmes, among other things are the challenges of librarians in the course of acquiring information literacy skills'. The study cuiiong others' recommends provision of adequate of information literacy programmes by government, university mancigement and library authorities to enable librarians acquire more information literacy skills, while librarians should put in use the information literacy skills acquired in the course of delivering their  services.
