ABSTRACT
Collection Development Policy establishes
ground rules for planning. budgeting, selecting. and acquiring of lihr:iry
materials. It also a vehicle through which the library achieves the goals or
its reatkrs· services. The Study examines collection development policy as a
factor inllucncing quality services deliver} to library users in Michael Okpara
lJniversity of Agril:ulture. lJmudil-.e (MOUAU). Abia State. Nigeria. The
design for the study was survey research. The population was 60 which cover
Professional and non-professional staff of Michael Okpara University of
Agricultun:. Lihrary l.lmudikc. There was no sampling for the stud) and the
instrument used for data cc,llcction Y.·as qucstionnain.:. the questionnaire
titkd: collection development policy as a fodor inllt11.:m.:ing quality service
delivery to library users (CDPQSl)f.l!). The instrument \\..IS validated by two
experts in Lihrnl') and Information "icicncc. l'he method of data
collection was self-administered questionnaire to ·c;;pprulc1~h. Data obtained
were descriptively analyzed using frequency and mean. The study reveals the format
of collection development policy in use in MOUAU, the extent of its application
for quality service delivery to the library users and the challenges encounter
in implementing the collection development policy for quality service delivery.
