ABSTRACT

 The study examined the arnilahility and utilization of ICT facilities for effective service delivery in Imo State University Library, Owerri. The objectives includes to: find out the IC'T facilities available in Imo State University Uhrary. Owerri: .find 0111 the ICT facilities utilized for services delirerv in Imo State University Library, Owerri: ascertain the extent of utilization of ICTfacilities for services delivery in Imo State University Library, Owerri; examine the effect of availability and utilization of1CT/c1cilities on library service delivery in Imo State Unil·ersity Librwy, Owerri; and find 0111 the problems militating against the availability and utilization of JCTfacilities in Imo State University Library, Owerri. The research design adopted for this study was a survey research design. The population of the study was of 39. Complete census was used to get 39 sample size ll'hic.:h reJ}f'l!Sents 100% of the total populution. The instrument for data collection was a reseurc.:her developed observation checklist and a questionnaire. Data generated from the study were analysed using descriptive statistical tool of mean scores and standard deviation. 1'he findings oft he study revealed that the Imo State University Ubrary, Owerri have /CTfacilities such as Digital satellite television (DSTI'), scanning machine, multimedia power point projector, World Wide Web, /nternet, photocopy machine, computer, printing machine, CD-lU),\.1, and Visual Display Unit, while audio 1ape displlly. radio set. and electronic bulletin boards, ,vere not available al Imo Stale University library. Owerri. The finding also showed that ICT facilities such as Digital satellite television (DSTV), scanning machine, multimedia power poinl projec!or. World Wide Web. J111erne1. photocopy nwchine. c:ompwer. printing machine utilized in Imo Stale University Library, Owerri to a high extent. The findings also reveal eel that adequate utilization of ICT facilities had positive e.lfect on service delivery ir Imo State University Library, Owerri which indudes aids arndemic lihraries to achieve their ohjectil·es: promotes quick and timely access /o and transfer o/in/imnation resources that are .fimnd dispensed round the globe: improves job performance; promotes development and improves services in academic libraries; and speeds up information delivery, facilitates teaching, learning and research. The .findings .fi,rther revealed that the constraint., to the availability and utilization of ICT facilities for effective service deliwry in Imo State University Library, Owerri were limited/restricted access /o users. poor maintenance culture, poor networking, lack of trained personnel, erratic power supply, lack of adequate infrastructure and policy structure of the government. Based vn the .findings. the study recommended thut the management of Imo State University Library, Owerri should make eflim to make available audio tape display, radio set. and electronic bullelin bvurcls in the ICT centre as these will jacilitate in the e.f/ec:live service delivery. Also, the users in Imo SIClte L'niversity Library. (Owerri should he exposed to all IC'Tfacilitie,'i as this will enhanc:e their utili:mivn.
