Abstract

 The study investigated teachers' assessment of the rate of existence of School Readiness traits among primary one pupils in both private and public schools in Owerri Municipal and the proportion of the pupils' parents who provided them the support services they need to achieve school readiness. Teachers' assessment of the rate at which schools provide assistance needed for school readiness was also investigated. census design was used for the research. The population comprised teachers in both private and public schools in Owerri Municipal. They were 165 in number. Six hypotheses guided the study. An adapted Likert-type questionnaire composed of 27 items was used jar data collection. The reliability of the questionnaire was established using Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient. Data collected were analyzed with Chi-Square. It was discovered that some pupils from both private and public schools had not achieved school readiness.More pupils from private schools than pupils from public schools possessed School Readiness traits. Part of conclusions drawn was, pupils need to be helped to acquire School Readiness. Among the recommendations made were that the government should provide public schools with educational facilities and qualified teachers needed to support school readiness.
