Abstract
This study evaluates the Availability and Utilization of
Audio Visual Aids in teaching and
learning of agricultural science in Imo State junior
secondary schools. It adopted a
descriptive survey design and was carried out in one
Educational Zone of Imo state. Two
research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses
were posited and tested at
0.05 level of significance. The population of the study was
made up of 312 Agricultural
Science teachers and 15 IO Agricultural Science students of
the selected Second my
Schools. Based on Robert and Morgan's (1970) formular for
determining sample size
from a known/finite population, a sample of 46 Agricultural
Science teachers· and 224
students were used for the study given a total of 270
teachers and students. This sample
was drawn from one zone out of three educational zones in
Imo state 11sing a multi-stage
sampling techniq11e and proportionate stratified random
sampling. The instrument used
for data collection was questionnaire called Evaluation of
the Availability and
Utilization of Audio Visual Aids in Teaching and Learning
of Agricultural Science"
(EAUAUATLAS) made up of JO items using 4-points modified
likert scale and validated
by three experts in the department of Science Education,
Michael Okpara University of
Agriculture, Umudike. The test-retest method <?f"
reliability of the instrument was used
and the data obtained were analyzed using Pearson Product
Moment Correlation
coefficient and yielded a correlation coefficient <?f
0.83. All the research questions were
analyzed using mean and standard deviation while t-test
statistic was employed in testing
hypotheses. The results revealed that there are low extents
of availability of audio-visual
aids and low extent of audio-visual aids utilization in
agricultural science teaching and
learning. It was recommended that Training of Agricultural
Science teacher should he
reviewed to emphasize knowledge and skills related to use
of audio-visual aids for
teaching and learning of agricultural Sciences in secondary
schools.
