Abstract
The important role that women have to play in
achieving sustainable and equitable development is a global outcry. As such,
this study did an evaluation of female gender-centered policies for sustainable
and equitable development in South-Eastern Nigeria. The Ex-post Facto research
design was used for the study. One research question was answered and one null
hypothesis tested using Chi-Square statistics. The instrument for data
collection was a questionnaire entitled: "Instrument Evaluating Policies
for Sustainable and Equitable Development of Women" (/EPSEDW) designed,
using the Likert Scale Model and validated by three experts in instrument
construction. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.81 and was
administered to a simple randomized sample of 340 male and female adult
respondents in the study area. The results (If data analysis using simple
percentages revealed that to a high extent most gender policies in the country
needed to be reviewed in line with global gender policies to guarantee
sustainable and equitable development of women in the study area. It was
recommended among other things that a legal framework should be put in place to
promote women's access to education, employment, vocational guidance,
gender-responsive consultation forum, and representation in governance.
