ABSTRACT
This studs' was
undertaken to assess School Environmental Factors as a Means to Enhance
Teachers' Jot) performance in public secondary schools in Ikot Ekpene Education
Zone of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The study investigated how infrastructural
facilities, class size, school supervision and teachers' welfare enhanced
tchers' tob perlormanee. Three null hypotheses were Formulated to guide the
study. INc actual population comprised Forty thousand, three hundred and twenty
seven 4O.327) teachers' and students made tip of' 1\vo thousand, two hundred
and ninety three 2.Q3) teachers and thirty-eight thousand, and thirty Four
(38,034) students in 72 public secondary schools in Ikot Fkpene Lducation Zone
of' the state as at the year 2014. 'INc sample consisted of one thousand, Four
hundred and twenty four (1,424) respondents, made up of' two hundred and twenty
eight (228) teachers, and one thousand, one hundred and ninety six (1196)
students selected 11otn 38 out of 72 secondary schools in the 7one. Two sets of
researcher developed instruments were validated and used For collection of'
data. These were Quality Control Measure Questionnaire (QCMQ) meant to obtain
responses trom Teachers and Teachers' Job Performance Questionnaire TJPQ) meant
to elicit responses from students. The data collected were subjected to
statistical analysis using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. All the
hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study showed
that there was a siniflcant influence of school environmental factors in terms
of infrastructural thcilities. school supervision and Teachers wcithre on
teachers' job performance. It was concluded that Teachers' Job performance
could be improved through quality control measures. It was recommended among
others, that effective supervision (both internal and external) should be
strengthened to guarantee the quality of public secondary school leavers.
