ABSTRACT
The study
examined Occupational Welfare Program as Determinant of Job Satisfaction of
Employees in Military Educational Institutions in South East, Nigeria. The
study employed a correlational research design. The general purpose of the
study was to ascertain the extent to which occupational welfare program serve
as determinants of job satisfaction of employees in military educational
institutions with six specific objectives. Six research questions were posed
with the intention of examining the extent to which occupational welfare program
serve as determinant of job satisfaction with regards to compensation insurance
program, workplace recreation program, employer assisted housing program,
workplace living accommodation, work place day care program and career
development training program. Six null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of
significance to guide the study. Two structured questionnaires titled
Occupational Welfare Program Questionnaire (OWPQ) and Job Satisfaction
Questionnaire were the instruments for data collection. Face validity of the
instruments were established by three experts to ensure items adequacy,
measurability and relevance of the instruments to the study. The reliability of
the instruments were established using Cronbach Alpha Reliability Coefficient
and the overall reliability indices of the instruments, OWPQ and JSQ were 0.83
and 0.86 respectively. The sample size of the study was 781 employees of the 10
military educational institutions in South East Nigeria. Pearson Product Moment
Correlation was used to answer the research questions while Linear Regression
Analysis was used to test the hypothesis at p < 0.05 level of significance.
Findings of the study revealed among others that workers compensation
insurance, employers assisted housing, workplace day care program significantly,
to a positive high extent relate to job satisfaction of employees in military
educational institutions. The research recommended among others, that Nigerian government
through her agencies should establish different workers compensation insurance
program, in order to improve job satisfaction of workers’ generally and
employees of military educational institutions. Secondly workers, union,
employers of labor as well as other relevant agencies should endeavor to
establish workplace recreation program for workers, their members and staff respectively
in order to improve their job productivity and satisfaction.
