ABSTRACT
A variety of security techniques have been employed in the
design of Virtual Private Networks (VPN), all of which serve the purpose of
obscuring the information exchanged or transmitted to all but the intended
audience. This work is an appraisal of cryptography, which is a fundamental
tool In achieving information security. It is also the building block for
several other technologies and applications used in achieving security of
network connections, authenticity of users and integrity of data communication.
