ABSTRACT
The study investigated "Effect of billboard advertising
on consumer preference for toilet soap in Umuahia, Abia State. Questionnaire
and review of related literature was used for data sourcing. The population of
the study consist of two local governments in Umuahia. A sample size of 100
respondents were randomly selected between the two local government. Three
research questions were formulated and analyzed. The analytical tools used was
Chi-square, and the result shows that location, clarity of image and language
use affect consumer purchase decision. Based on the findings, the following
recommendations were made: Companies that uses billboard type of advertising
should choose a location where people can notice the billboard; the image of
the billboard should be clear so that people can see it very well and
understand the write-ups; companies should use language that will be
understandable and explainable to people in order to understand what the advert
is all about and companies should celebrities in billboard posters in order to
attract attention of people.
