ABSTRACT
This
project is about the develop and evaluate the grinding Machine performance
suitable for bush mango (Irvingia gabonensis) nuts. To improve or develop a
local technology in processing industry. History and journals on how the
concept of grinding machine started, modem technologies used in manufacturing
process. Also, during the course of this project, a working principle was
analyzed to ensure a smooth operation ofthe machine for optimum performance and
easy maintenance of tire grinding machine, the following factors given by
Starkey (1988) was taken into serious consideration; Simplicity of design to
meet the required standard and specifications like size, weight, input, the
power required. In selecting materials for the design, the following points
were considered; The availability ofthe materials, The ability ofthe materials
to withstand service conditions, The physical, chemical and mechanical
properties of the material, The overall cost of both the material and processes
involved. The belt which is the transmission element transmit motion ofthe
electric motor to the grinder, in selecting the transmission element the
following was considered; the distance between the shafts, Shaft layout, It can
be easily installed and removed, the operation of the belt and pulley is quiet,
Selection of the belt mechanism. The belt drive used in this design is V-belt
(a 0900). It transmit great amount ofpower, the two pulleys are very near each
other. The belt drive used in this design is V-belt (a 0900). It transmit great
amount ofpower, the two pulleys are very near each other. The velocity ratio
ofthe. two pulleys. V ,R. = diameter of the driven pulley DIVIDED BY Diameter
ofthe driver pulley Where; diameter of the driven pulley = 15.50cm diameter of
the driver pulley = 4.90cm. From equation 1, V. R. = 15.50/4.90, V. R. =
3.1633. Therefore,V. R. = 3.1. This impliesthat the velocity ratio between the
two pulleys is 3:1, it means that the driver pulley revolves three times while
the driven pulley revolves once. In carrying out this project, care was taken
on the design concept to meet the required specification. Calculations were
done to determine the required efficiency ofthe machine. The component for fabricating
the machines is the spark ignition engine, the grinder, the belt system &
the framework. Testing was carried out to ensure a complete quality control and
assurance which can be affordable in any domestic, commercial and industrial
requirement.
