ABSTRACT

An intranet based information Management System is simply a software designed for the purpose of information processing and management on the company's intranet. As one embraces the fact that the world is all about management and processing of information, coupled with the proliferation of personal computers, organizations are faced with the feat of a good and effective management of information and communication within their networks. This project work studies the existing system of information management and sharing within the College Of Biological and Physical Sciences of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, with an emphasis on its existing short comings and seeks to proffer solutions to them by the introduction of a more effective and efficient system. At the conclusion, this work will recommend an entire change of the existing system of manual process of information management with parallel changeover approach. The existing system will be replaced with an Intranet Based Information Management System that will eliminate the use of paper to a large extent, facilitate communication among staff and departments of the college, provide easy and immediate access to information by staff and students, eliminate the case of missing results of students in the College, promote the efficient running of operations within the college. In summary, the project is an Information Technology approach to the enhancement of information management and sharing within the College of Biological and Physical Sciences of' the great Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State.
