ABSTRACT

For most business, today's challenges lie in the ability to respond to the growing requirements of the many departments for operational, statistical and financial information. More and more airports and air traffic control units are reassessing their "information technology strategy" and how to support their mission critical issues of the 1990's and to ensure that they have in place solutions that will carry them well into the 21St century and beyond. Many airports have already moved towards open systems where information can be accessed and shared across a multitude of disparate hardware systems, operating systems and networks. There are many departments in an airport that wants to have information supplied in real time, senior management have realized that in order that the different departments contained within an airport to work in harmony, they must link and integrate their resources, people, equipment, facilities and information. Therefore, this led to the research of this project which is the web-based computerization of some of the operations of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State. These operations include Airport Billing Module, the Staff Information System and Flight Information Display System. The manual method presently used by the airport has been seen to be associated with many problems which resulted to their customers being dissatisfied by their services. Hence, the need for the Web-based Airport Management System. The project includes security measures made to protect the system from unauthorized access. The software package used for the transactions of the activities were developed using Visual Studio. Netand Microsoft Access as the programming language and database management system respectively.
