ABSTRACT
This research presents a technical assessment of wind power potential of Ikeja city, Lagos
state, Nigeria to determine its viability for wind turbine system. Initially Weibull probability
distribution 's two-parameter model was used for the mathematical modelling and design
using data harvested at 2m height. When extrapolated at higher regions of altitudes of
30meters, wind speed was found to be between 22.66 to 29.9 ni/s while the monthly power
densities were in the range of 6996 <WPD< 16097 W/m2, Similarly, maximum monthly mean
wind energy density (WED) values at the same height yielded 11976 Kwh/m2which is
effectively good for wind turbine applications. These key local parametric values were
plugged into Q-BLADE to design and model a tailor-made blade using blade-element
momentum theory (BEM). The designed blade was also drawn and stress analysis conducted
using SOLID WORKS, the blade was seen to fail at J000N. The coefficient ofpoiver of the
designed blade was 0.335 which falls within beltz limit (0.59).
