Abstract

 The study was conducted to establish the validity and reliability of teaching practice assessment measures used for assessing studentteachers teaching skills in senior secondary schools in Abia State. The study was guided by two research objectives which were to determine the validity of the teaching practice assessment measures and to determine the reliability of the teaching practice assessment measures. The study adopted the Research and Development design. The population of the study was all student-teachers involved in teaching practice in the 2017/2018 academic session in Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudi.ke, Abia State University, Uturu and Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu. The sample of the study was 400 students who were selected from the three institutions. The sample was selected using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique purposively selected. The instrument for data collection was the Teaching Practice Assessment Measure for Student-Teachers (TPAMST). The instrument was face and factorially validated to establish the construct validity. Reliability of Internal consistency was establish for the instrument using the Cronbach Alpha. The result of the analysis showed that Teaching Practice Assessment Measures for Student-Teachers (TPAMST) was valid since the factor loading on the instrument ranged from 0.35-0.70 it was also reliable since the internal consistency of the items ranged from 0. 7 and above. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the instrument should be used in assessment of the student-teachers during their teaching practice.
