The Effect Of Environmental And Waste Management Disposal And Economic Growth/Development Theory: A Study Of Enugu State Waste Management Authority
ABSTRACT
The problem of environmental and
waste management has become a debilitating factor towards development in
Nigeria. The study was candied out to know the chains of problems militating
against waste management disposal in Nigeria with particular reference to Enugu
State. The study adopted survey research method. Data collected through
questionnaire were analyzed and hypotheses tested using Chi-square statistical
measure. The findings revealed that there has been improvement in the system of
managing the waste but some areas were still lacking that needed attention.
Management problems which have confronted the organization from becoming
efficient and effective in the discharge of their official functions included
problems of recruiting the right people to man the organization. It has become
prevalent that recruitment of touts has become the order of the day and this
has created set backs in the achievement of goal as envisage for this excellent
organization. The recruitment has been
based on nepotism which has hampered progress in the organization. Also government
policies have not helped matters especially on issues of education and
enlightenment to e public for meaningful contribution in waste management. The
issue of corruption is a management problem that has cause a lot of failure in
the system. Corruption is all encompassed and finance alone but those issues
done not in accordance with the norms. Based on the findings, me of the major
recommendations including modern ways of managing environmental and waste : as antidotes for better environmental and waste management disposal to
Nigeria in general d Enugu State in particular.
