Social Media And Information Dissemination:- Umebali, Oluchi C.
ABSTRACT
The emergence
of Information and Communication Technologies, ICT, has made a significant
impact in information dissemination. Equally, the World Wide Web, WWW, has
enabled people to access information, create content and disseminate
information more effectively and efficiently, devoid of distance barrier. With
the advent of social media, people have more access to information and equally
disseminate it to large members of the society. This has invariably and
positively impacted the libraries and library services, to the extent that
presently, modern libraries that are I CT-driven are adopting the latest
technologies and trends in ensuring effective and efficient user- .friendly
information service delivery. This brings to the lime-light the paradigm shift
from the concept of a library being a physical place where users could visit to
access information, to a social cyberspace where users access, communicate and
contribute to existing knowledge, and also disseminate same.
