Adoption Of Strategic Measures Toward Enhancing Utilization Of Library Resources By Students Of Veterinary Medicine In Two Selected Federal Universities In Nigeria:- Nnamdi Emmanuel O
Abstract
This
study analyzes the strategic measures that could be employed to enhance library
utilization by students ofveterinary medicine in two selectedfederal
universities in Nigeria. It seeks tofind out the library services that are
availablefor veterinary medicine students, theproblems affecting their
utilization ofthe library andstrategies to enhance library use by students of
veterinary medicine students. A descriptive survey design was used for the
study with a population of 1250 undergraduate students. Sample sizeof250 (20per
cent) ofthepopulationwas usedforthe study. The I instrument for data collection
was structured questionnaire and observation checklist. Percentages, mean
scores andfrequency tables were used in analyzing the data. The findings show
that library services in both institutions under study are inadequate resulting
in student's apathy to the library use. It also reveals that obsolesce
ofinformation materials, inadequate staffto attend to users, unorganized
resources in the library among others are some ofthefactors affecting their use
of library resources. Thefindings also evidenced that provision ofrelevant and
current 1 information resources, provision of internet services/facilities in
the libraries, CurrentAwareness Services and employment ofmore staffto attend
to students in the libraryare some ofthe strategiesthatcouldbe employedto
enhance library utilization v by the veterinary medicine students. Conclusion
and recommendations were made basedon thefindings ofthe study.
