ABSTRACT

 The study adoptedwas a descriptive survey research design on effects oflibrary instruction on the utilization oflibrary resources in Michael Okpara University ofAgriculture Umudike by computer science undergraduate students. The purpose was to ascertain the effect of library in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike. It was guided by five purpose and five research questions. The study has a population of 158 which was totally enumeratedfor the study. The instrument usedfor data collection was a questionnaire developed by the researcherfor accurate results. Data were analyzed usingpercentage and mean scorefrequency table. The survey showed that 89.1 % ofthe respondents agreed that the use oflibrary course, Library Workshops, Library tours and Library orientation programmes are the Various Levels ofLibrary Instruction Used in MOUA Uwhile 10.9% disagreed. The data indicate that a greaterpercentage ofthe student agreed that perception oflibrary instruction in MOUAU is high with VERY EXCELLENT HAVING a mean scores of3.57, effective having a mean score of 3.53 and useful a mean score of3.56 which all is above the 2.50 criterion and the decision rule for them are accepted. It also indicates that utilization oftextbooks, utilization ofbulletin, utilization ofresearch report, utilization ofresearch monographs, utilization of transaction and proceedings, utilization of patents, utilization of technical bulletin/report, utilization of Data sheets, utilization of Dissertations, utilization of letters, utilization ofDairies, utilization ofMemoranda, utilization ofcompanyfiles, utilization of Thesis, utilization of Oral history, utilization of internal research reports, utilization of indexes/abstracts, utilization ofBiographies, utilization ofGazzetteers, utilization ofGuide and travel books, utilization ofPeriodicals (Newspapers, Magazines, Journals), utilization ofinternet services, utilization ofEncyclopedia, utilization ofDictionaries, utilization ofAtlases maps and globes and utilization ofManuals are high because ofthe presence oflibrary instruction. The result showed that the problems militating against library instruction for effective utilization of library resources by computer science undergraduate students in MOUAU: Care free attitude of librarian, Attitude of students, Insufficient fund, Environmental hazard, obsolete materials, Inaccessibility of materials, Irregular power supply, Irrelevant materials, Inaccessibility of materials, Irregular power supply, Irregular power supply, Irrelevant materials and insufficient materials.
