ABSTRACT

 The purpose ofthe study was to evaluate the technical services in Abia State Library Board. The research used was a survey design. The study population consists of5 technical service staffs from the library board. The sample size used was all the staffs in regards to their population size. A likert-four scale pointrating scale was used as data collection instruments. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of means scores and standard deviation. The study notified that Abia state library board is a public library which is accessed by various individuals/groups etcfrom all works oflife. The study as well identified the various technical services provided by the technical unit which aids duties to be done efficiently and effectively, the provision ofthese services will lead to stream lined satisfaction of information needs of the users. Furthermore, the study also found out the problems/challenges facing the technical service unit of the library which includes: Few numbers ofstaff to perform technical duties, little space capacity to accommodate new arrival of information materials, poor budget, epileptic power supply, lack of skilled technical librarians, little or no access to internetfacilities. The solution to these problems were stated asfollows: Employment ofnew staffto speed up activities at the technical unit, Funds should be raised for the library by government or library associations to help the library create more space for accommodation ofnew arrival, the government should support the library by increasingfunds allocated to the library, steady power supply machine should be provided by the government, skilled technical librarians should be employed, internet facilities should be created to enable users get their information needs provided within a shortspace oftime.
