ABSTRACT
The
study was a research on Influence of Trade Dispute on Organizational Growth .
The objectives ofthe study were To determine the causes oftrade dispute in
ABSU, to ascertain the effects oftrade dispute on the performance ofstudents,
staffofABSU and society at large. To find out the relationship between trade
dispute and student's academic performance, to determine the possible way trade
dispute can be managed at ABSU. A well-structured questionnaire was used to
collect the primary datafor the study which were later analyzed using simple
regression and Z test after the study analyses showed that there are
significant causes of trade dispute in Abia State University, that there is
significant effect trade dispute on the performance ofstudents and staff of
ABSU and society at large, that there is significant relationship between trade
dispute and students' academic performance and finally, negotiation and
arbitration are possible ways to manage trade disputes in ABSU. However, the
recommendations were that, Trade disputes should be avoided, in the Nigerian
universities because ofthe negative effect on the workforce. The loss ofman-
days would reduce as strikes would be curtained iftrade disputes were avoided,
this would lead to growth in industrial relations, A flexible organizational
structure should be instituted to improve the relationship between management
and staff. Communication should also he improved to avoid break down in
industrial relations, Both union leaders and management representatives
shouldfrom time to time embark on training to understand the workings ofindustrial
relations, When workers are aggrieved, they shouldfollow the appropriate
grievance procedure before going on strike.
