ABSTRACT
The study is on enhancing the
quality of locally made goods through the application of Total Quality
Management (TQM) using Champion Breweries Pic and Guinness Nigeria Pic as a
study. It drew a sample of one hundred and seventy (170) respondents, using
Taro Yamene's formula for the computation of the sample size. The objectives of
this study was to determine ifTotal Quality Management is practiced in Champion
Breweries Pic and Guinness Nigeria Pic, ascertain the effects ofTotal Quality
Management (TOM) on the operational costs of Champion Breweries and Guinness
Nig. Pic, establish the effects of Total Quality Management (TQM) on the
corporate image of CBP and GNP. To achieve the above stated objectives, the
researcher used survey and analytical research methods to analyze data obtained
from the questionnaire using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co efficient to
validate the research hypotheses. From the findings of the study, it was
discovered that inappropriate reward system, failure to develop employee
participation, lack of proper training and preparation ofstaff, inability to
build a learning organization that provides for continuous improvement of
staff, paying inadequate attention to internal and external customers,
ineffective measurement of quality improvement and lack of data are some of
negative impacts that does not enhance the quality of locally made goods in
Nigeria firms. It was recommended amongst others that improving customer satisfaction,
enhancing quality of products and/or services, productivity, capacity ofthe
production line, employee performance competitive position and reducing
production development time, waste of inventory, work in process, cost,
delivery times, employee turnover, and complaints will help to improve the
quality of locally made products in Nigeria firms.
