Comparative Evaluation Of The Effect Of Thiopent Al, Propofol, And Ketamine On Xylazine Premedicated Local Chicken:- N'wach’ukwu Ifeoma G

ABSTRACT vi This study was conducted to compare the effect of thiopental, propofol and ketamine on local chicken premedicated with xylazine that underwent lacerated wound repair, to determine the best anesthetic regimen for local chicken during long and short procedures. Fifteen healthy matured female local chicken with an average weight of 0.2kg were used for the study. They were randomly allocated into three groups (A, B and C). They were fed ad libitum with commercial feed throughout the experimental period. Group A was given xylazine -thiopental combination, B was given xylazine - propofol combination, and C was given xylazine — ketamine combination. The result revealed that xylazine - ketamine combination was best suited for long invasive procedures while xylazine - propofol combination was best suited for short surgical procedures like lacerated wound repair. Thiopental was not suitable due to its disadvantages. Keywords; Xylazine, thiopental, propofol, ketamine, local chicken, premedication.
