ABSTRACT

The study examines the impact of management information system effectiveness on bank productivity (A study ofselected Banks in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria). Specifically the study determine the effect ofmanagement information system on bank productivity: ascertain the relationship between management information system and productivity; determine the factors affecting management information system on productivity in banks; identify strategies adopted by the management to enhance management information system in banks in Umuahia, Abia Stale, Nigeria. The study adopted survey and descriptive design and Random sampling technique. Primary data sourced from distribution of questionnaires to staff of Zenith Bank Pic and Diamond Bank Pic in Umuahia, Abia State were usedfor the study. A test-re-test was conducted to ensure validity and reliability of the data. The data were presented using 5 point Likert scale. The hypothesis were tested using Chi-square and Correlation coefficient model (SPSS). The result reveal that management information system effectiveness has significant effect on productivity of banks in Abia State; secondly, there is positive relationship between management information system effectiveness andproductivity m banks in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. Lastly, the resultfurther reveal that management policy, finance, corruption, staff training, technology, employees' techniques, innovation have significant impact on management information system effectiveness in Zenith Bank Pic and Diamond Bank Pic Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. It was recommended that the studied banks management should introduce and operate central-data-base management system through which information can he produced and communicated to various users at any point in time within the firm. Since management information system has significant impact on task productivity.
