ABSTRACT

The study centered on ascertaining the role of information technology in the performance of manufacturing organizations in Nigeria. Thus, the study laid focused on Nigeria Bottling Company to ascertain the specific objectives provided; to determine the· extent to which information technology has contributed to customer satisfaction and performance of manufacturing organizations, to determine how skillful and knowledgeable the staff are in the use of information technology in manufacturing organizations and to determine whether there is an increase in the level of efficiency and effectiveness of operations since the introduction of information and electronic technologies in the manufacturing system. However, detailed questionnaire copies were distributed to sampled staff of the organization and responses generated from them were analyzed using Product Pearson Moment correlation coefficient and regression analysis. The result of the analysis provided the following findings; the use of information technology exacts a significant effect on the operation of manufacturing organizations, information technology device has helped manufacturing organizations staff effectively in the performance of their duties and lastly, the use of information technology devices such as computers, office automation does help manufacturing organizations staff in the operations of their duties. Based on the above stated findings. the researcher proffered the following probable recommendations: Information technology should be fully funded and receive unconditional support from the management; proper enlightenment programs and mediums should be put in place to enhance communication between the institution and their customers: committees should be setup to monitor the implementation of information technology in the manufacturing organizations; prioritize the customer before the technology. It is important to first and foremost identify the needs of the customers before introducing technology. Generators in manufacturing organizations should be run on standby to avoid disruption in the flow of electricity which can slow down the rate of operations.
