ABSTRACT

The study determine the impact of business ethics on organizational survival in Nigei ian Bottling Company (NBC) in Imo State. Specifically, the study determine the effect ofethical practice on organizational survival; analyze the elements of business ethics practice on organizational survival: examine the relationship between compliance to ethical practice and organizational survival and determine the constraint militating against ethical practice in Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) in Imo State. Primary data sourcedfrom distribution oj questionnaires to staffofNBC Imo State were usedforthe study. Descriptive andsurvey design were adopted by the study and the questionnaire were distributed to 133 staffofNBCImo state. A test-re-test was conducted to ensure validity and reliability of the data. The data were analyzed using simple percentage, frequency and 5point likert. Simple regression model Chisquare statistical model and correlation coefficient were used in testing the hypotheses. The result reveal that majority ofthe respondents 44.3%, 41.8%, 51.6%>, 59.0% and 54.1%> ofthe respondents strongly agree that ethical practices has a significant effect on organizational survival; majority ofthe respondents 68.9%, 62.3%, 58.2%, 55.7% and 45.9%> strongly agree that Public spiritedness, Integrity, Transparency, accountability and Empathy respectively has an increases in organizational survival; majority ofthe respondents 66.4%, 56.6% and 49.2'% strongly agree that there is a relationship between compliance to ethical practice and organizational survival. Most ofthe respondents constituting 63.1%, 52.5%%, and 36.07% strongly agree that socioeconomic issues, policy ofthe organization, political instability, Lack oj equity and bribery/corruption are the major constraints militating against ethical practice and social responsibility in NBC Imo State. The empirical result shows that ethical practice haspositive andsignificant implication on organizationalsurvival. Element ofbusiness ethical practices has significant effect on organizational survival. There is positive relationship between compliance to ethical practice and organizational survival in Nigeria Bottling Company Imo State, Nigeria. Finally, lack oj equity, political instability, socioeconomic issues, low net proft, policy ofthe organization, working environment, bribery/corruption andpoor legal provisions have significant influence on ethical practices of the organization. Il was recommended that there should be specific procedures to identify and deal with the issues oj ethical misconduct within and outside the organization; and it is importantfor organizations to increase punitive measures to violators ofethical codes.
