ABSTRACT 0 vi Plants have been the basis for medicinal treatment through much of human history and such tradition medicine is still widely in use today, Such as the roots of "Sphenocentrum jollyanum" The objective ofthis work were to examine the effects of methanol extracts of the roots of "Sphenocentrum jollyanum" containing antioxidants for Alloxan Induced diabetic rats. The extract at tested doses 200 and 400mg/kg body weight caused significant (p<0.05) and dose dependent decrease. The methanol extract decreased in mean value of the normal control of the CAT activity and showed significant increase when compared to the negative control group. It also showed decrease in the mean value of SOD activity and showed significant decrease compared to other groups. Finally MDA as a lipid peroxidation maker, showed significant increase in the negative control group to other groups with mean value of (7.15±0.03). The result indicates that the methanol extract of root of "Sphenocentrum jollyanum" contains some pharmacological active principle which may help in the modulation of defensive factors.
