ABSTRACT
The research work titled Evaluation of pipeline, pumps and
valves failure during oil transmission (A Study of Shell Transmission line) was
carried cut to determine the major reasons for pipeline and equipment failure
during oil transmission in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Data was
collected on crude oil and product trunk transportation pipeline network of
Shell Petroleum Develop incur Company (SPDC) in six Niger Delta states (Akwa
ibom, Bayelsa Cross Riven Delta. Edo and Rivers) between 2005 and 20)1. The
data showed that Bayelsa, Rivers and Delia which are the main hub of oil and
gas exploration in Nigeria have higher pipeline failure rates as compared to
Akwa ibom, Edo and Cross River states A ranking methodology was used to
determine the likelihood, of failure of pipeline in each of the states studied.
The results obtained showed that the most significant failure criterion for the
pipelines is external interference followed by Structural defect, with relative
likelihood of failure of 0.326 and 0.242 respectively. It was also seen that pipeline
network across Delta state would be most likely to fail, compared with the
other five states
