ABSTRACT'

Laboratory cultured mixed zooplankton of different body sizes,, 100pm, 101-200pm, mixture of 101-200pm and 201-600jim, 20l-600)m and natural zooplankton were tested as first food for larvae of Clan as' gariepinu. 20m1 of the concentrated volume of each body size were fed daily. After a 5day larval nursing period better survival rates were observed for icy fed 101-200,urn body size than for fry fed other body size range. Natural Zooplankton were the next best while 201 - 600pm yield the poorest result. It i recommended, that in the use of live fish food for catfish larvae, emphases should be on the provision of sufficient quantity of the proper size of zooplankton rather than provision of large number of mix sizes of zooplanlKton as many of them may be unavailable to the larvae.
