ABSTRACT

 The studyfocused on the Effect ofPerformance Appraisal on Employees Productivity (A Study of Broadcasting Corporation ofAhia Stale, Umuahia). The specific objectives sought to achieve in this study includes; to examine the most effective performance Appraisal processes and procedures, to idemify the main reasons for conducting performance appraisal, to determine the effects of problems encountered when conducting performance appraisal, to ascertain how performcmce appraisal affects employees ' productivity. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The study had a population size of320 employees out ofwhich a sample size of 178 respondents was realized usin^ taro Yamane's formula at 5% error of tolerance and at 95% level of confidence. Instrumen! usedfar data collection was primarily questionnaire. Out of 178 copies ofthe questionnetires that yvere distributed, 175 copies were returned while 3 copies were not returned. Data collected yvas analyzecl using descriptive analysis while the hypotheses was tested using correlation, cmova, and regression statistical tools. Thefindings showed that there is a significcml relationship between performance appraisal and effective processes andprocedures in BCA (r=0.972, p=().00< ().05). Also there are strong positive reasons for conducting performance appraisal in BCA (r 0.982, p - 0.00<0.05). The problems encountered has ci negative effect during performcmce appraisal in BCA (r= -0.965, p= 0.00<0.05) and finally, performcmce appraisal to a grea! extent ctffecls employees' productivity in BCA (r=0.862, p=0.00<0.()5). The study recommended that managers in Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, Umuahici should improve on the training and development needs. Again, methods of helping poor performing employees to improve upon their performance should he put in place as policy intervention.
