ABSTRACT

This study examined the effect of innovation and creativity on the productivity of hospitality industry (A study of two selected hotels in Abia State). The objectives of the study are to determine the effect of high quality services on the productivity of hospitality industry, to determine the effect of introduction of new technology on the profitability of hospitality industry, to determine the effect ofservice development on the patronage of the hospitality industry and lastly to determine the effect of innovation and creativity on employees performance. A survey research design was adoptedfor the study. The study had a population size of 55. Instrument used for data collection way questionnaire administered to the management and non- management staff of the two selected hotels. The hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square statistical tools. The findings indicated that high quality service has significant effect on the productivity ofhospitality industry (X2c= 45.532> Xfi =26.296, P= 0.00< a=0.05), that introduction of new technology has significant effect on the productivity ofthe hospitality industry (fX2c=29238> X2t =26.296, P=0.00 < a=0.05). that service development has significant effect on the patronage turnover of the hospitality industry (X2c=60.554> X2t =26.296, P=0.000< o.=0.05). that also innovation and creativity has significant effect on employees performance in the hospitality industry f(X2c=34.717> X2t =26.296, P=0.000< a= 0.05).Therefore the researcher recommended that hospitality industry in Nigeria should provide high quality services to their customers ifthey hope to survive in the industry and also they should adopt new technology to enhance theirperformance and increase the growth oftheir industry
