ABSTRACT

 This paper examined the effect ofInformation Technology on the Performance ofBanks, A study ofDiamond Bank PLC Abia State. The objectives -were to: describe the socioeconomic characteristics of the employees in the Diamond Bank Nigeria Pic in Abia State, ascertain the effect of information technology on the performance of Diamond Bank Nigeria Pic in Abia State, find out the effect of information technology on the efficiency of the Diamond Bank employees, identify factors mitigating the adoption of information technology in Diamond Bank Pic. Primary and secondary sources were used: The use ofquestionnaire was employed to gather necessary and relevant datafrom the respondents. The methods were used in order to minimize the problems associated with data collection and to ensure that the results are visible and biasfree as expected. The data was analyzed .using inferential and descriptive statistics. The descriptive ■ statistics involves frequency table, likert scale while the hypotheses were tested using Analysis ofVariance (ANOVA). The results ofthe findings show the f-statistics ofthere is effect of 61.7% (f=74) ofthe respondents are male, while 38.3% (f=46) are female. 46.6°/o (f=56) ofthe respondents are between 21-30 years, 40.8°/o (f=49) are between the ages of31-40 years, 10.8%> (f=13) are between the ages of41-50 years, while 1.8°/o (f=2) are between 51-60 years, 51.6°/o (f=62) are single, 44.2°/o (f=53) are married, 2.5 % (fi=03). 5.8% (f=07) attended secondary education, 55.8% (f-67) are diploma holders from various polytechnics, while 38.4%> (f-46) are graduatesfrom various universities, Al P>0.01 level ofsignificance, Information Technology have a strong positive effects on the performance ofDiamond Bank Nigeria Pic in Abia State with correlation coefficient of (r = 0.995), At P>0.01 level ofsignificance, Information Technology have a strong positive effects on the efficiency of the Diamond Bank employees in Abia State with correlation coefficient of (r = 0.917), Lack ofInfrastructure with the mean score of (x = 3.9), Cost/LackofMaintenance with the mean score of(x = 3.8), and Inadequate Fundingwith the mean score of(x - 3.6), are the majorfactors mitigating the adoption ofInformation Technology in Diamond BankNigeria Pic, Abia State.
