ABSTRACTS

The study examined the effect of collective bargaining on the working condition ofemployees in Michael Okpara university ofAgriculture, Umudike. The objectives ofthis study are to ascertain the relationship between collective bargaining and employees working condition in Mouau, to determine the other factors affecting the employees working condition in mouau, to examine collective bargaining process adopted by the university and to identify the effect of collective bargaining among the employees in Mouau. This adoptedjudgemental sampling techniques, the study adopted both primary and secondary data and a questionnaire was administered to the respondents a total 150 questionnaires were distributed to academic and non-academic staffof MOUAU and 138 questionnaires werefilled and returned. In the process ofextracting the data it was discovered that 2 out of the 138 questionnaires were wrongly filled and were discarded accordingly. Thus, 136 questionnaires were validfor the study which shows 90.67% ofthe total questionnaires. The models adopted in this study are multiple regression analysis and Pearson moment correlation coefficient were used to analyse the objectives. This study highlights on collective bargaining and employee working condition and how it improves the performance of the employees when proper incentive is given to them. The study concludes that all around the institution there was a positive relationship that exit between collective bargaining and employee working condition. To all these groups however, collective bargaining stands as a vehicle to improve the quality oflife for individuals, families and university community and to sustain a healthy economy and environment. This study also suggests that employees should identify themselves with the existing association/groups in the institution; through this group a proper collective bargaining will be carried out constructively and their voices will heard and needs met Key Words: Organization, Collective Bargaining, Employee, Working Conditions, Motivation
