ABSTRACT

The development of Chromium-Nickel (Cr-Ni) nano hybrid coating thin film on mild steel for corrosion inhibition and enhancement of the surface properties using electro-deposition method was done to enable development of high performance nano coated mild steel with high corrosion resistance and impressive engineering properties. The study developed the nano film coated materials using electro-deposit method with varied experimental parameter such as deposition time and volume formulation ofthe Cr-Ni nano solution film. The coated materials were subjected to corrosion tests in concentrated acids media using weight loss method to determine corrosion rates and corrosion inhibition efficiencies of coated nano film. The studyd further characterized coated film using FTIR. Results obtained indicted that the use of hybrid coating is has more efficient corrosion inhibition properties when compared to the use of single element coating. It was also found that the volume formulation and deposition time have significant effect on the efficiency of the coating film. The developed nano hybrid coating is useful for corrosion control in aggressive environment mostly in oil and gas line applications.
