ABSTRACT
The main objective of this work is evaluation of 3D printed
electrical component using PLA Filament as feed stock, characterization of the
3D printed parts to determine physical and mechanical properties of the printed
components and evaluation of the printed components to ascertain its
suitability in electrical application. The printed parts were characterized and
properties desirable for 3D printing were determined which included
differential scanning calorimetry, density, flexural strength, tensile strength
and hardness. There was decrease in the hardness, increase in the tensile,
flexural strength and the density of the material remained unchanged. Also,
Differential scanning calorimetry graph oç the sample material showed that the
melting point of the printed plastics increased. This will solve; plastic waste
management and production of locally manufactured 3D printing feedstock. This
innovation is particularly useful to manufacturing firms and will reduce spare
parts importation. Scraping of machines/equipment due to non-availability of
parts will also reduce considerably.
