ABSTRACT
In this study, the
design and fabrication of date fruit deseeding machine was done. The design was
focused on the integration of the grating and extraction process involved in
the extraction of coconut. The steps followed in order to achieve this work involves
the design, fabrication and testing stage. The basic components of the machine
include, hopper, grating shaft, auger, gear, pulleys, belts, electric motor and
the frame. The electric motor was connected to the grating shaft with the aid
of a belt and pulley, the grating shaft. The grating pulley drives the pressing
shaft with help of a pulley and belt. The coconut is poured into the machine
through the hopper and into the grating unit where it is being grated and from
there it flows down to the extraction unit where it is being crushed and
pressed by the auger. The oil obtained is then collected through the oil
collector. The machine as a theoretical capacity of 10.12kg/hr and has an
efficiency of 96.3%. This reduced time spent in extracting oil from coconut
will result in the reduction of the cost of the oil. Also, since the machine is
made from stainless steel materials the oil will not be contaminated from co
