Anthropometric Measurement Of Preschool Children In Aba North And South Local Government Areas Of Abia State
ABSTRACT
Anthropometric measurement of preschool children in Aba
North and South Local Government areas of Abia State was carried out in order
to know the growth rate of the preschool children. This was done using weight,
height, chest circumference, head circumference and skinfold thickness.
Weighing scale was used to collect data on their weight, staidometer. was used
to collect data on their height, measuring tape was used to collect data on
their chest and head circumference and skinfold caliper was used to collect
data on their skinfold thickness. One hundred and three subjects were used
which constituted of 26 males and 26 females in Aba South. 27 males and 24
females in Aba North LGAs of Abia State. The data was analyzed statistically
using the result showed that a total of 3.9% of subject in Aba North were
severely stunted, 9.8% were moderately stunted, 84.4% were normal and 3.9% had
optimum growth. In Aba South LGA 3.8% of the subjects were severely stunted
11.5% were moderately stunted, 80.8% were normal and 3.8% had optimum growth.
This study showed that most children in Aba North and South were not stunted
for their age.
