ABSTRACT
The central
focus of this paper is the role and place of basic principles of management
namely; planning. organizing, controlling, directing, and coordinating in
chives administration. This implies the applicability of these management
principles for the efficient and effective service provision by an archivist
managing an chive. It must be stated at this point that the essential
requirement of an administrator or manager is to have character and integrity,
a genuine respect for fellow lorkers, and a commitment to fairness and justice
in all rel.itionships down, up and across the line. Also, in this essay, some
other concepts in management which hnnot be treated in isolation or be treated
exclusive of the functions or principles will be briefly discussed. Such concepts
indude motivation. Equally, effort will be beared to touch on leadership versus
management
