Accounting Information On Banks' Lending Decisions (A Study Of Mainstreet Bank Of Nigeria Plc. Owerri):- Okoro Udu N
ABSTRACT
The
research examined the impact of accounting information on Mainstreet Bank of
Nigeria Pic., Owerri. l-'owcvor, data were collected/obtaincd from
questionnaires administered to various staff of the Bank. The hypotheses used
in the research were tested using Analysis of-Variance (ANOVA) statistical
tool. The following were revealed as findings, that there is a relationship
between bank performance and lending decisions. Th^t the accounting information
received from customers have significant influence on Bank's lending decisions.
There is a positive impact of accounting information on Bank's lending
decisions. That there is non- financial information requirement that influence
bank's lending decisions. The Bank's make use of financial ratios in assessing
customers credit worthiness. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends
that banks. should make sure that a thorough feasibility study is conducted to
eliminate uncertainty on loans given out. Banks should always insist on their
customers to produce a well audited financial statement in order to improve on
the level of reliance of accounting information derived from it. Banks should
employ qualified financial analysts or better still design an effective result
oriented ..training programme for new lending officers. Banks should establish
good credit department which will generate information and investigate the
credit worthiness of customers.
