ABSTRACT
This study was designed to compare resource allocation and
efficiency in fadama rice farming and dry season vegetable production in Imo
State. The study was restricted to the period of' production (November March)
and data were collected based on the production systems used by farmers. A
sanipc of 80 farmers (40from each zone) was interviewed with a structured
questionnaire. The soci -economic characteristics of the farmers were
highlighted and evaluated using simple statistical tools. Multiple regression
was used in data analysis. The efficiency of resources used was tested using

For dry season vegetable production, fertilizer, fhrm size, depreciated value of
asset and other inputs Vv " under utilized , while in fadama rice farming
labour and oder inputs were over utilized. Net income analysis was used to
determine inc profitability 0! both the. traditional dry season vegetable
production and fadama rice farmitg systems. Netproilt values of' N20052.8 and
NI 5738.35 respectively was realized from the Iwo enterprises. It was therefore
recommended that government snould encourage dry season farming by providing
IrrigatIon thclites to faimeis. 1- aimeis should also folm coopeauve societies
so that they can procure inputs and obtain loans easily as a group
