Time Series Analysis Of Umudike Rainfall Data From January 1996 To December 2001
ABSTRACT
The analysis presented here deals with monthly data in rainfall of Umudike Umuahia Abia State of Nigeria, from 1996 to 2000. A secondary data were used. The data were collected from department of Agrometorology statistics and records, National root crops research institute (N R C R 1) Umudike. Statistical packages used were SPSS version 7.5, Minitab for word and excel. The analysis reveals that the autocorrelation function (ACE) and partial autocorrelation function (PACF) shows seasonal variation. Seasonal differencing was done using twelve-months moving average. The fitted model was shown to be seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) of order (0,0,0,) (0,1,1,)12 . With this model the forecast was made for the nearest future. The seasonal decomposition shows that June has the highest amount of rainfall with 200.489mm, while February has the least amount of rainfall with 0.819mm. Finally, recommendations were made at the end of this work.
