Time series analysis of reported cases of road accidents in abia st ate from january 2006 - december 2010.
ABSTRACT
The increasing level of road traffic accident in
Abia State and the consequent injuries and deaths strengthened the case for its
regular analysis. Road traffic accidents can be attributed to factors such as
equipment failure, road design, poor maintenance and drivers behavior. Data on
recorded cases of road traffic accidents from January to December 2010, were
collected from the Federal Road Safety Commission, Umuahia, Abia State. Using the
method of time series analysis, traffic road accidents were characterized to
have a slightly downward trend with the use of a statistical package known as
MINIT AB and a model ARMA (2,2) was suggested to fit the data which was used
for the forecast. This is intended to create awareness of these problems or
causes, both to the driver and Federal Road Safety commission so as to motivate
a move towards the solution of these problems.
