ABSTRACT
Statistical Process Control (SPC)
is a set of tool for monitoring and controlling variation in a process. Lack of
the application of statistical process control in industries have resulted to
substandard production hence it is very important in practice to know when a
process has changed sufficiently so that steps may be taken to remedy the situation.
This research work centers on the weight, hardness, moisture content and
friability which are production process variables measured during the
production of Stargyl 200mg tablets at Petsow Laboratories and Pharmaceutical
Company Aba. The powerful Shewbart control charting technique using the
X-chart, S-chart and I-MR chart were used to monitor the production process
after evaluating the data for the basic assumptions of SPC. It was observed
that the weights and hardness of Stargyl 200mg tablets were out of control and
a revised chart was constructed. The moisture content and friability of Stargyl
200mg tablets were in control. It was recommended that the company should
consider the in-control operating charts proposed.
