ABSTRACT

 The main objective of this study is to investigate if there is any trend effect in the occurrenee of infant death and to fit a time series model. The monthly data collected in Abia state university teaching hospital Aba covers a period from 2005-2014. Box-Jenkins iterative procedure was used to model infant death. Hence, the model ARMA (1,1) was identified and was found to be adequate using the model adequacy test, one year forecast were made using the models developed and it shows that the infant deaths are constant. In conclusion, it was recommended that the government and the health providers should do more in the reduction of infant leath since the trend of infant was found to be constant, so that the dream of the MDG4 will he actualized.
