ABSTRACT

Weather is one of the factors that determine the type of food we grow and eat what we put on, how we live and moreover how we work. To be precise, weather has influence over man's activities on this earth. Because of the importance of weather, scientists have absolutely deemed it necessary to give meteorological report from time to time. Among other things, researches made in science and technology, potential farmers and their crops are still at the mercy of the dimatic weather condition. Some of the elements include Temperature, rainfall, Humidity, Evaporation etc. For instance, Temperature is at its maximum during dry season which invariably affect human beings and crops adversely. In our country Nigeria, at maximum temperature, people become more uncomfortable because of the intensity and the effect of the sun. The higher the temperature, the higher the Evaporation and the more plants wither. In this work, we are interested on Evaporation which indirectly is proportional to temperature. Water changes from liquid to gas as a result of Evaporation. Evaporation may be defined as the lost or escape of water molecules from the soil, crops, animals etc. Soil Evaporation is the one that affects the crop adversely, which involves escape of water molecules from the soil. Soil Evaporation will continue at a high rate for some time after the cessation of rainfall, then decrease as the ground surface starts drying until a constant rate is reached which is depended on the depth of the water table and nature of the soil in addition to meteorological conditions. The higher the Evaporation, the higher animals and plants loose their moisture. Evaporation is intense during the harmattan period and dry season In line with these effects of Evaporation on crops and man's activities, most especially on crop failure as experienced by farmers, more reliable and dependable forecast will be provided using the "Time series" method of analysis. Based on such results of the analysis, recommendations will be made.
