The Effect Of Organic Inputs On Some Physico Chemical Properties Of Soil In Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area Of Abia State, Nigeria

ABSTRACTS

An experiment was conducted in the Soil Science Laboratory of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture ,Umudike to investigate the effect of organic inputs on some physicochemical properties of soil in Uzuakoli Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. The experiment was 3x4x3x5 factorial in completely randomized design .soil samples were collected from three depth (O-l5cm,15-30cm,30- 45cm),five sampling point in a hectare of land, using core sample and a soil augar. The treatment applied were combination of poultry dropping and Aspilia africana and the amendment rates were 0% 1.25% and 3.75% respectively. Each treatment was replicated three times. Results show that the organic amendments influenced all the soil properties at p The influence on these properties increased as the rate of amendment, depth, sampling distance and incubation time increased. Amendments with organic materials increased the acidity of the soil, increased organic carbon content, total nitrogen and available phosphorus of the soil. The 3.75% rate gave higher percent improvement in soil properties related to control and compared with 1.25% and 2.5% organic amendments. The soil properties varies with depth especially the chemical properties were highest in 30-45cm compared to 0-l5cm,15- 30cm.
