ABSTRACT
It gives me
great pleasure to welcome all ofusto my inaugural lecture, holding today the 12
Day ofApril 2017. The idea of inaugural lecture was designed to give
opportunity for a freshly appointed or promoted Professor to inform the
University community and the general public about his/herresearch output and
update them on his future research plans. It is therefore aprivilege forme to
give my inaugural lecture today, seven years aftermy promotion to the rank
ofaprofessor. The road to today's event has been marked with series
ofturbulence and unanticipated events. It all started in 1974, when on
completion of my primary school education and having passed the Common Entrance
Examination to one of the best secondary schools in the then Bendel State
(Western Boys High School, Benin City), I lost my dear father, Mr. Jackson
Osodeke. 1 had to abandon the admission as my mother whojust lost her beloved
husband could not afford the school fees. It was notuntil two yearslaterin 1977
thatI was able to gain admission into a secondary school (Ughoton Secondary
School) in a village known as Ekenwa in the same old Bendel State and my
jnotherwas able to paymy school fees.
