ABSTRACT

The main objective of the study is to develop an automated system for Supermarket

Transaction Processing System with good interacting user interface for easy access. The

system will be able to produce accurate and reliable reports on sales for management

decision making. And also the system will be able to store and retrieve information in a

data base and proper identifications of the information. The analysis involved a detailed

study of the current system, leading to development of a new system. The existing system

of the supermarket transaction processing system is manual which have some pitfalls in

that the manual method of handling the transaction process and report of any modern

shop makes the work very tedious and difficult. It wastes a lot of time and does not

always produce very accurate and reliable reports. The system is also very expensive to

maintain. It takes another number of days to make the daily transaction to be update with

the stock status. In development of the automated supermarket transaction processing

system, waterfall model is used which has a lot of phases are involved. The first phase is

the feasibility study of the existing system i.e the detail study of the system and its

problems. These information, needs and activities done by the existing system was

documented and later used as the basic for the system design, which immediately follows

the first phase. The design phase was concerned primarily with the specification of the

system elements in a manner that meets the user's requirement. To implement this

design, a computer program was then written and tested. It is hoped that effective

implementation of this software product would eliminate many problems as seen in the

manual system.
